Anyone who feels compelled to fight for freedom of speech
could probably find a better target than a publisher of children's
books. The facts are: (1) The story of Santa doesn't require
him to smoke, and those two lines of poetry are not especially important
to the piece - removing them doesn't change its tone or appeal.... Continue reading ...

While the actors didn’t puff away throughout the entire film, we did see yet another glamorous actress–this time, Berenice Marlohe–clad in an evening gown with a drop-dead accessory, a smoldering cigarette. Skyfall delivered more tobacco impressions (smoking incidence per film times the number of admission tickets) than any other movie in 2012, the groups says. “The movie Skyfall had over 20 smoking incidences, delivering over 840 million impressions in the U.S. alone,” says Stanton A... The nicotine delivery device industry leach onto Twas

In a google alert I discovered that the nicotine pushers are using the media hype of this story to push nicotine delivery devices. They issued a media release that was picked up by at least one paper. " Santa smoking removed from iconic poem after decades, changed to protect children. Leave Santa alone, there are better ways to quit. Do you think history should be changed to protect children ? " Leave Santa Alone. This is classic nicotine marketing manipulation. Dear Santa, I would like three things for Christmas. The first thing I would like the most is for my dad to stop smoking. He wastes money on cigarettes. Now he does not even spend time with us. It can also hurt his lungs. The second thing I would like is some perfume. It is called “so perfect”. You can get it at Macy’s in the mall for $30.00. The third thing I want for Christmas is new earrings. They look like reindeer. You can get them at Walmart for $5.99. ... Continue reading ...

IGNITE A CONVERSATION AROUND SMOKING PREVENTION

I noticed in the news today that Kentucky is gearing up to further smoke- free legislation in 2013. It has been my

I don't know the exact quote but you get the idea. Addiction can be a tricky concept to explain to an adult let alone a child but this is the conversation we need to develop in our social cure to tobacco use.
